Utah - Understanding Tax Collection

For events in Utah, you’ll see a charge of up to 9.05% of the total amount charged to the attendee (‘buyer total’) for Utah Sales Tax. Learn more about tax on ticket sales.

In this article

  • If you’ve been collecting tax in Utah
  • If you or your event is tax-exempt

Under the Eventbrite Merchant Agreement, you authorize Eventbrite to collect and remit taxes on your ticket sales in jurisdictions where Eventbrite is legally required to do so. Please note that you’re responsible for understanding all of your tax obligations.

If you’ve been collecting tax in Utah

You will no longer be able to collect tax in Utah since Eventbrite is now responsible to collect and remit sales tax on ticket sales.

If you or your event is tax-exempt

When you set up your event, you’ll have to answer a couple brief questions in Tax Settings. Tax won’t be charged to you or the attendee if you’re a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization or if your event is for an athletic event at a college or university, or an event held at or related to a public or private elementary or secondary school (K–12).

NOTE: Eventbrite may request supporting documents to verify your answer(s). You’re responsible for providing supporting documents when requested.
